Apparently, mathematics is your friend too.

Mathematics never talks about you, though. Just the other day, I was like "Hey, mathematics: do you have any other friends working on cool Flash stuff?" and mathematics was like "No way, man; I totally don't have time for that what with fall classes and everything" even though I totally saw mathematics hanging out with Lindsay and Kristy and Misty and Candy and Mandy and Tracie and Tracii with two i's at the food court. I thought mathematics was my friend, but I just don't think we can be friends anymore with that kind of dishonesty between us. I mean, I was totally thinking about uninviting mathematics from my party, but you know how Tracie with I-E gets about parties and mathematics.

Actually, none of that is true except the subject line. Nice job. Make more.

Metal-Chuy responds:

Thanks. Wow. Nice fictional story. It adequately fits with my major...Applied math....Math can be your friend as long as you don’t deal with her abstract side, that part of her is just vile weed. I hate that side of her. Don’t piss off math, for she will show you her abstract side and make you go: wait what about fields? Hhmm. actually; another “game” is in the works…. It’ll be about springs.....potential energy and stuff like that.

*BARELY* Modified from a Publicly-Available File

This is just a *BARELY* modified version of the game from the "Racing Cars" chapter of "Flash MX 2004 Games Most Wanted" from Friends of Ed/Apress. If you want to release a game based upon a publicly available source file, you should do more to it than modify the graphics and you should *CREDIT THE AUTHOR OR PUBLISHER OF THE SOURCE FILE* instead of trying to pass of someone else's hard work as your own.

as a mater of fact i have a book that help me make this game so >:p i dint steall !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Worthy Sequel

This game seems like a huge improvement over its predecessor. Everything looks more polished.

Unfortunately, with everything else looking so good, the stick figures look rather out of place, but even they look better now; I hope their updated look is a step toward more detailed characters in the future.

By the way, I loaded Overrun II and De-Animator (/portal/view/237765) at the same time and at first, I thought your menu music was coming from De-Animator; it worked very well with that game too. Which music was that?

Denvish responds:

Hmmm? I thought the sticks looked cool. I dunno, my Swift skills have certainly moved on, but there's always the filesize (and CPU usage) in the back of my mind, so I really can't make things too complex. The menu music is... erm... dropkickpikachu, check the whole track out on the Audio Portal.

A Neat Game with Potential

That was kind of cool. I hope you keep working on it or make a sequel with a bit more to it.

stickists responds:

i wasn't planning on making a sequel but seeing as so many people have asked for one i will make one with more features graphix and music and lose the anoying heartbeat sound that everyone hates

Borf is not here.

Ace? Kimberly? Borf? Didn't this game used to be a cartoon?

ahh the days of laser disks gone by...

Deja vu!

I was very surprised to see your game because I have been working on a turret game myself and I do not recall seeing anything that has looked so similar until now. My turret is keyboard-controlled, but it has two cannons and fires twin lasers from a central screen position somewhat like yours. You beat me to the release, so I will congratulate you on your fine trigonometry work (I too have worked out how to calculate a point that is offset on both axes, so i know that it can be tricky).

You might want to place your text above your turret so it is not obscured. You can use _root.getNextHighestDepth() to find a depth above all of your other clips. If you want to make sure nothing else gets added over that, you might want to contain all of your game entities within group clips (ships, lasers, and/or whatever) and just keep your text clip above the rest.

Nemo responds:

the text thing was just a layer messup... my bad. you are right about the trig stuff though. it took me a while to get it right. i found plenty of stuff on how to make the turret rotate, but getting the lasers to go in the right direction was the hardest. thanks for the reveiw and good luck on your game!

It could be much better.

Of course it can. What would give you that idea? Your keyboard or your computer might have a problem with multiple keys--especially certain combinations thereof--but Flash could check for fifty key presses (or more!) on the same frame if you wanted it to.

Go0gley responds:

Hmm they really don't seem to work at all in my computer. Probably because of the space bar. I'll perhaps try to use a different key. But then, do you know how to make it shoot by just holding down one key? (I've got stop(); in the first frame, causing it to play(); will activate the bullets)

Pretty Good Job / Nice Retro Feel

You might want to add a diagonal doppelganger, though. With only horizontal and vertical doppelgangers, things don't look quite right when the ship flies into a corner.

Valenn responds:

thx!

Too Many Deaths

The player can hardly inspect anything without getting killed; that is too much. Also, the game is essentially a few bits of trial and error weaved together. I would like to see a longer game with more to do.

CUatTHEFINISH responds:

Yeah.. You couldn't be more correct. I'm gonna start work on Murder Mansion Revisited tomorrow.. It should be a heck of a lot better then this version of the game..

Mathematics is your friend. Well, maybe not yours per se, but it is my friend anyway.
